Getting Prevail to work for you.
Below are the minimum and recommended specifications to run Prevail. Depending on your particular speed preferences, the minimum specifications may not produce the most efficient working environment for you. Meeting the recommended specifications will help increase performance.
Requirements For Document Merge
Requirements for Email Integration
In order to be able to scan directly into Prevail, you will need a scanner that is TWAIN compatible with the appropriate drivers installed. Please contact your Network Administrator for assistance to confirm compatibility.
For remote access to Prevail we recommend using a Terminal Server or Remote Desktop connection. Due to network latency issues a VPN connection is not recommended for providing adequate remote access performance.
The Prevail QuickBooks Transfer Wizard works with QuickBooks Pro or Premier, 2008 or newer, or Enterprise 8 or newer. It DOES NOT work with any version of QuickBooks Online.
Microsoft Outlook (2007/2010/2013) (32 bit) is required for providing full email functionality within Prevail. The “Click-To-Run” edition of Microsoft Office is only compatible with 2013 or later.
Appointment synchronization at the workstation level is between Prevail and Microsoft Outlook (32 bit). In order for these appointments to synchronize to a mobile device you will need to implement a third party solution or synchronize manually using your device software, e.g.: iTunes or similar (if available).
Appointment synchronization at the server level is between Prevail and a MAPI ODI layer (or Microsoft Outlook if it is installed). A local Microsoft Exchange server (not hosted or cloud based) is required to access these appointments on your mobile device.
Whereas the Prevail Server components can co-exist with other database platforms (or other applications) we recommend for optimum performance that a dedicated Prevail server is introduced.
We have noted a considerable degraded level of performance when the Prevail Server / Advantage Database Server co-exists with Microsoft Exchange, we recommend using a separate server for hosting the Prevail Server component.
Virtualization can be implemented at both the workstation and the server level, please ensure that the virtualized machine has sufficient balanced hardware to achieve an adequate level of performance.
Microsoft have announced Windows Server 2003 will be reaching its “end of life” July 14th 2015. Prevail will continue to operate on this server beyond this point but Microsoft will cease to release updates and service packs for this server operating system.
Wireless networks are not recommended. Please ensure that your network is running over Ethernet cabling to provide an optimal level of performance. If a wireless network is the only option please ensure that you use a 150/300mbits (N) topology with a dual band router and adapter.
On an Apple Macintosh VMWare Fusion and Parallels virtualization can provide a Windows desktop. Both the Prevail server and workstation will function within this environment but it will be unsupported by Prevail Technical Support.
No warranty is expressed or implied with these recommendations. The specifications listed here are to be used for guideline purposes only. Please contact your IT professional for additional advice.
